Eunice Mateo

Eunice Mateo, from the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean Sea, creates abstract art that merges organic forms with psychedelic swirls, earthly textures with exotic surfaces. She favors warm colors of the spectrum, such as vivid oranges and reds, and specializes in blending colors and textures, while exploring new techniques to load her surfaces with character.

Mateo strives for the right balance of color, texture, depth and heat in her paintings, and she says much of the result often seems to emerge from the canvas itself. "The painting has to have its own soul. It has to come alive,’' she says.

She is currently based in Miami. From 2002 through the summer of 2016, she lived in Asia, in Thailand and China, where she held solo and group exhibits and participated annually in art festival and workshops. In addition toThailand and China, she has exhibited in Italy, France, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mexico, Philippines, South Korea, Spain and Turkey. She held a solo show in the Dominican Republic’s premier artist colony, Altos de Chavon in La Romana. More recently her artwork was part of a group show in the 57th Venice Biennale that later traveled to the prestigious Le Salon Nationale des Beaux-Arts at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris, France.

Mateo’s works are in public and private collections in Asia, Europe, the United States, South America and the Caribbean
