“The love of a mother is never exhausted. It never changes — it never tires — it endures through all, in good repute, in bad repute, in the face of the world’s condemnation, a mother’s love still lives on.” (Washington Irving)
Mothers are the backbones of the family. They provide the safe place for family’s feelings and do
their best to keep them from being hurt. But if the mother could not look after the family due to
any illness, the family life gets disturbed. And in such condition the responsibility to hold the
family together is transferred to the eldest daughter. The thesis is based on my life experiences as
a daughter, facing some undeniable odds due to mother’s mental instability i.e. bipolar disorder,
due to which she could not deliver the required attention as a guardian of the family. As a daughter
I faced this whole situation but gained strength and courage from the love of my mother.
People with bipolar disorder are very sensitive and unique in a way that they are able to experience
emotions in a very deep and intense way. They experience two extremely and unusually variant
moods on different situations. Roti is something which is mostly relatable to the mother in Asian
society. Either well-cooked or burnt, if it is made by mother, one can feel the love of mother in its
taste. The texture rendered in the form of roti along with the shape of rose and its petals convey
the idea of the unconditional love and that the mental instability of a mother never makes the
mother-daughter relationship unstable.
